Chess is a fun and strategic game that can improve decision-making, strategic thinking, analytical skills, and more. We will learn the names of pieces, how they move, basic tactics, openings, checkmates, and endgames. Classes include 30-40 minutes of instruction with 20-30 minutes of supervised play.
Instructor Bio: Prathiba Gounder is an International Master who won the U.S. Open Women’s Championship in 2013 and 2014. She is the owner and coach of the ChessEmpireKids club and has been an active chess instructor for the past 14 years, beginning her teaching journey in New York City schools. She currently teaches in various schools and recreation programs across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In addition, she directs USCF-rated events each month and has coached teams that have won team championships in Massachusetts state tournaments.
