It’s easy and fun to create beautiful cards using rubber stamps! Create 10 all occasion cards (2 each of 5 card designs) and learn stamping techniques.

Marianne Fravel has been in the scrapbooking and cardmaking business for 2 years, offering weekly workshops in her home. She is a teacher with a Master’s degree in Computers In Education as well as a mother of 4 children. She is an avid reader and also quilts and knits.

Garden in a Basket
Instructor: Betsy Williams
Bring the garden indoors! Plant a “garden in a basket” to add life and color to the center of your dining table or garden window. This arrangement combines potted plants with fresh cut flowers in a decorative basket. Arranged together, pots of flowering plants, lacy ferns, trailing ivies and fresh flowers become a delightful table garden. With proper care, the plants will last for many months and the fresh flowers can be replaced when desired.
Materials fee of $39 is payable to the instructor.

Betsy Williams has been in the business of growing, selling, decorating and teaching about working with herbs since 1970. She is an experienced florist who uses her knowledge to create uniquely beautiful, fresh and dried floral pieces. She has authored several booklets on herbs.

Arranging Spring Flowers

Spring is in the air! It’s time to fill your home with the bright blossoms of the season! Learn how to buy, pick, cut and condition daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, pussywillows, flowering shrubs and other spring plant material. Each student will make two arrangements, one in glass and another in an attractive container with floral foam.
Please bring floral scissors, an apron and a box to carry your arrangements home in. Materials fee of $49 is payable to the instructor.

Spring Twig Wreath
Instructor: Betsy Williams
Celebrate the return of the growing season with a 15" twiggy wreath decorated with pussywillows, flowers and greens. Finish your wreath with ribbons or raffia to coordinate with your home décor. Your wreath can be hung outdoors in a sheltered area or indoors to brighten up gray days.

Designing Window Boxes
Instructor: Betsy Williams
Window boxes are gardens in a box - fun, manageable and so pretty. Window boxes can be planned to coordinate with your home’s color scheme, accent a season, celebrate an occasion, provide herbs for the kitchen or do it all at once. Annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and even miniature evergreens grow well in window boxes and they can decorate windows, steps, walls, railings, fire escapes, patios and porches. Learn how to plant and tend window boxes, which plants are best suited for them and how to design for shade as well as sun. You will plant a 24" window box suitable for a sunny location.
Please bring an apron and floral scissors. Materials fee of $42 is payable to the instructor at class.

Make a Grassy Planter

There is more to grass then lawns! There is a world of ornamental grasses that can add a touch of sophistication to your gardens and planters. Grasses are easy to care for, have a long growing season and come in an array of sizes and textures. Learn about annual and perennial grasses and how to grow them. We will fill a 12" planter with a selection of grasses and a lovely trailer or two.

Knit 1, Purl 2: The Basics of Knitting

This class is for beginners, but all knitters are welcome to join! Learn the basics of knitting; how to cast on, cast off, the knit stitch and purl stitch. Start fun projects including hats, scarves and ponchos to work on throughout the course. Once you learn the basics, you’ll be able to work independently and create new, knitted projects on your own! Handouts and practice yarn will be provided. 8 classes.
Please bring two pairs of needles (size 6-10, straight or round) and 2-4 skeins of your favorite yarn.

Freddi Lynne Triback has been an instructor at Landmark School for the past 12 years. She’s taught everyone from kids to adults the basics of knitting and how fun and fulfilling it can be.

Mat Cutting Workshop
Instructor: Larry Glickman
Creative matting may be the most important and rewarding element in custom picture framing. This one-day workshop will provide basic instruction in mat measuring, beveled cuts, creative corners, ovals and multiple openings. Explore advanced techniques of mat decoration such as double and triple matting, V-groove, the inlay mat, slant and notch corners and French matting. All mat cutters, tools, and equipment will be provided for use in the workshop. Limited matboard will be available from the instructor or bring your own matboard, artwork and equipment.
Bring a #2 pencil, notepad, ruler and lunch.

Larry Glickman has been teaching matting and framing for the Andover & Brookline Centers for Adult Education and doing matting and framing workshops for various art associations in the Metro Boston area for 20 years. He owns “Traveling Framers” in Andover.

Rachel Rome Houpes, current president of the Guild of Beverly Artists, holds an M.Ed. in Art from Tyler School of Art (Temple University). Ms. Rome’s vibrant colors and expressionist painting style reflect her many years of painting in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Italy and on Cape Ann. One Stroke, Decorative Painting with Jeanette

Developed by Donna Dewberry, this One-Stroke painting course will teach students the correct method of loading the paintbrush, allowing you to blend, highlight and shade all in one stroke! This expanded course will introduce students to 8 different types of decorative flowers, a new one each week. Students will use Folk-Art Acrylic paints to paint flowers and will accent them with Dimensional Paints. This course is an addition to students that have taken the Basic One-Stroke course and can also be enjoyed by students new to One-Stroke painting. 8 classes.

Watercolor Magic

Intro to Digital Photography:
Get the Most Out of Your Digital Camera

Instructor: Michael Naimo
This class covers it all, from how digital cameras work to how to work your digital camera. Over the course of 3 weeks, we’ll figure out the controls for your digital; discuss resolution, white balance, and file formats; define basic photo terms and concepts; and suggest techniques for improving photos. Output options for getting images from the camera onto paper, disc or the world wide web will also be introduced. This class combines lessons from the popular class, “20 Tips to Better Photography”! 3 classes.

Michael Naimo has been a commercial and fine art photographer for over 20 years. He has lectured in high school and on the college level, and taught various workshops in photography and studio lighting. Digital Photography II

This class is designed for the student who wants to take their photography to the next level! An SLR camera is preferred but any camera with a manual mode will work. We will work on the image from conception to final presentation. Through the use of basic photographic techniques the student is able to create and capture the images they want. This class is about the capture of images, it is NOT a computer program class! Photoshop and digital and wet darkroom techniques will be discussed, however it will not be the focus of the class. There will be some homework! 4 classes.

Quilting

Come discover the magic of quilting! Turn ordinary pieces of fabric into a beautiful, hand-made quilt or wall-hanging. Choose to create a wall-hanging (4 week class), baby quilt/lap quilt (6 weeks). This class is designed for all quilting levels.
Please bring sewing machine and quilting tools including thread, scissors, rotary cutter, pins and quilting grid ruler. Fabric and batting may be purchased through the instructor or students can bring their own.

Get started sewing! Express your creativity by learning basic techniques that can be put to use doing all types of projects. You will learn how to use your sewing machine, make a needle book and tote bag, then work with a pattern to make either a skirt of pajama bottoms. Phyllis Vray is the owner of Sew Creative in Beverly and has been sewing since she was a child. After high school she took garment sewing and tailoring classes at Essex Aggie and has been quilting for 15 years. She is the Past President of Crossroads Quilters Guild in Beverly. Four years ago Phyllis combined her sewing and business skills to open Sew Creative. She is certified to sell, teach and service Pfaff sewing machines and embroidery software.
